“Playing Against Reality”

Pharoah Sanders tribute for a touching piece in the New Statesman. His music hasn’t been a part of my life for very long, and even though there’s a part of me that wishes I could have come across it sooner, I also know that I might not have appreciated it if I had. I found him exactly when I was meant to. He gave us so much, and for me to express anything other than gratitude would just feel misguided.
